Experience the Thrill of White-Tailed Deer Hunting
The white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) is an alien species in Finland, introduced in the 1930s to diversify the game population. Today, the species is one of Finland’s most important game animals.
The first white-tailed deer arrived in Finland in September 1934. They were a gift from Finnish Americans living in Minnesota, USA.
The original population consisted of only seven individuals (five females and two males), which were released into the wild on the grounds of the Lauko estate in Vesilahti.
